Old conservatories have plastic polycarbonate roofs.
It is an icebox in the winter. It is an oven in the summer. The room stays empty for half the year.
The Demolition Myth
Homeowners assume the whole structure needs knocking down.
They plan to rip out the dwarf wall, bin the frames, and start again. It is a massive waste of cash.
The Frame Check
Check the existing uPVC frames and the brickwork.
If the doors lock properly and the bricks are solid, leave them exactly where they are.
The Roof Swap
The plastic roof goes in the skip.
We take the old aluminium roof bars down. A new lightweight structural frame goes straight onto your existing windows. We pack it with heavy-duty insulation.
Lightweight tiles go on the outside. The inside gets completely plastered.
The Real Room
It stops being a greenhouse. It becomes a proper room.
The heat stays trapped inside. You can put normal furniture in it. You can actually use the space in December.
The Weight Limit
You cannot put standard heavy roof tiles on old uPVC frames. The frames will buckle.
We use specific lightweight synthetic tiles engineered for conservatories.
Come down to 78 Alma Road. We have the lightweight roof tiles and the insulation cross-sections on the trade counter. Pick them up and feel the weight yourself or give us a call on 01202 533126.
