Effortless solutions for windows and doors

New windows don’t automatically lower insurance premiums.

Most homeowners tell their insurer they’ve upgraded to double glazing and expect a discount. The insurer doesn’t care. To them, “new windows” is just a cosmetic description.

If you want the discount, you need a PAS 24 certificate.

The Crowbar Test

PAS 24 is a specific security standard.

It isn’t a marketing term. To get the rating, a window has to survive a timed attack in a lab. They use crowbars, heavy bolts, and physical force to try and rip the sash out of the frame.

If the locks hold and the glass stays in, the window passes.

The Insurance Gap

Insurance companies categorize houses by risk.

Standard windows are a “standard risk.” PAS 24 windows are a “low risk.” Without that specific certificate from the installer, your insurer assumes you’ve just bought basic frames.

You pay the same premium even though your house is harder to break into.

PAS 24:2022

The standards changed recently.

The 2022 update is the current benchmark. It covers the frame strength, the cylinder locks, and the way the glass is glazed. If you are ordering new windows, you have to specify this rating at the point of sale. You cannot “add” it later.

Claw Back the Cost

Proving your security rating to an insurer can drop your annual premium. It is the only way to claw back some of the installation cost over the next few years.
