Everyone wants a composite door.
It is the standard upgrade when the old white plastic comes out. They look good. But there is a catch, especially round here.
The Sun Problem
Composite doors struggle with the heat.
Driveways that catch the sun all day are brutal on them. Dark colours like Black and Anthracite Grey just bake.
The door physically swells up. Come July, you’re dropping your shoulder into it just to turn the key. You have to fight the handle to lock it.
The Metal Fix
Aluminium is solid metal. It doesn’t care how hot it gets.
It doesn’t expand. The gap around the frame stays exactly the same in the middle of winter as it does in August. You never have to fight the lock. It just glides.
The “Car Door” Close
Shut a standard composite door and it rattles a bit. It feels light.
Shut an aluminium one and it sounds like a heavy car door closing. It is a solid “thunk”. The seals hit perfectly. It just feels expensive.
The Verdict
We fit composites all the time. They do a job.
